Leave the kids, the husband and the house behind and come join us outside Strasburg, PA for a Mystery Quilt and UFO Weekend Getaway. We will be staying in a converted Amish farmhouse, situated in the heart of Amish Farm country. There we can enjoy the pleasures of the Amish countryside while we casually stitch our way through the clues to discover the identity of our mystery quilt, or work on your own projects from home. We will share ideas, new quilt tricks and "Show and Tell."

We start out Friday afternoon when we arrive at the White Oak B&B for a 5:00pm Wine and Cheese get together and Geri's "Tricky Trade." After getting to know your fellow quilters, you will enjoy a country dinner at the B&B, most of which is prepared by our Amish neighbors. Friday evening the sewing begins. Saturday morning will be spent with more sewing, but the afternoon is open for shopping and dinner out. The area abounds with outlet shopping, antiques, and my favorite, discount quilting supplies! Sunday we will finish up and head for home with the mystery solved or projects finished.

The getaway package is $250 and includes:

  • 2 nights lodging
  • 1 country breakfast
  • 1 homemade lunch
  • 1 country dinner
  • a lovely sunday brunch
  • mystery quilt clues

Space fills quickly so register early! This is great fun as a group or be truly adventurous and come alone. Either way you'll plant seeds of friendship that will grow for years to come.

About the Mystery Quilt

  • All the mystery quilts are designed using traditional block patterns. The quilts are constructed using quick sew, machine methods and basic rotary cutting techniques. Fun for all skill levels, beginner to advanced.
  • The quilts are designed to accommodate a wide variety of fabric and style choices. Use a planned color scheme or go scrappy. You can shop for fabrics (always lots of fun) or use what you have at home in your stash.
  • The quilt size is generally twin, and sometimes runs a little larger. With borders most can be made to full size. For a larger size you will need to make more blocks. Directions are provided for twin only. The weekend really only provides us enough time to complete that size quilt.
  • Sewing machines are required.

About White Oak Bed & Breakfast

  • White Oaks is a converted Amish farmhouse which has been kept in fairly authentic condition (there is electricity), and is plain rather than fancy. It is out in the country on a large hill that overlooks Lancaster county. The atmosphere is very casual so plan accordingly. We even sew in our pajamas!
  • There are 5 bedrooms at the B&B, all containing private baths. The getaways usually have 12 participants, 2-3 to a room. When you book a space you are booking a bed, not a room. We try to keep groups together whenever possible but as some people sign up as singles, occasionally groups of two may find that they have a fabulously friendly quilter as an additional roommate. New friends at every turn!
